Thames High School is a public high school in Thames, Waikato, New Zealand. Established in 1880, it is the second oldest secondary school in the former Auckland Province. ==Academics== Thames offers programs in several academic disciplines, such as English, Humanities, Languages, Mathematics, and Science. In addition, it offers courses in Drama, Physical Education, Technology, and Music. An ESOL program for non-native English speakers is also available. There are many foreign-language offerings at Thames. At all grade levels, Māori language courses are offered, with emphasis on developing confidence in speaking Māori and on an appreciation of Māori culture and values.〔(Te Ao Hou, September 1968 )〕 In addition, two students annually participate in a Foreign Exchange Student program for eight weeks. The school has a special needs program. The Learning Centre for special needs in literacy and numeracy has a very low Student/Teacher ratio. Thames students also have access to ''TVAEC'' (Thames Valley Alternative Education Centre), an off–site provider of education based in Paeroa for students with special needs from Thames, Hauraki Plains College and Paeroa College. Thames seniors have access to Gateway, a student work program designed to educate students about real-life work.
